Orgel

Huygens kwam via zijn vriend William Swann in contact met een van de meest internationale muzikale persoonlijkheden van zijn tijd, Johann Jacob Froberger. Ze ontmoetten elkaar in 1665 in Mainz waar Froberger aan het hof werkzaam was. De orgelwerken van Froberger zoals de Toccata‘s da sonarsi  alla levatione en de Fantasia sopra ut re mi fa sol la staan deze zomer op het programma samen met Hollandse muziek die Huygens ook waarschijnlijk gekend heeft, het tabulatuurboeck van de Psalmen en Fantasyen (1659) van  de organist van de Amsterdamse Nieuwe kerk Anthoni van Noordt, het Camphuysen Ms met lesmateriaal voor rijke dames die het virginaal bespeelden en natuurlijk muziek van Orpheus van Amsterdam Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.

Through his friend William Swann, Huygens came into contact with one of the most international musical figures of his time, Johann Jacob Froberger. They met in 1665 in Mainz, where Froberger was working at the court. Froberger’s organ works, such as the Toccata’s da sonarsi alla levatione and the Fantasia sopra ut,re,mi,fa, sol,la are on the program this summer, along with Dutch music that Huygens was likely familiar with, the tablature book of the Psalms and Fantasies (1659) by the organist of Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Kerk, Anthoni van Noordt, the Camphuysen Ms., with teaching materials for wealthy ladies who played the virginal, and, of course, music by the Orpheus van Amsterdam, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.

Pieter van Dijk
(b. 1958) studied organ with Bert Matter, piano, and church music at the Conservatory in Arnhem, and received further instruction from Gustav Leonhardt, Marie-Claire Alain, and Jan Raas. He is a prize winner of the international organ competitions in Deventer (1979) and Innsbruck (1986).                                                                                                                    Until 2025, he served as Professor of Organ at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He is organist of the Grote Sint-Laurenskerk in Alkmaar, responsible for the Van Hagerbeer/Schnitger organ and the Van Covelens organ (1511), and was appointed City Organist in 2004.
He has made several acclaimed recordings on the Alkmaar instruments; the DVD Alkmaar – The Organs of the Laurenskerk” received the German Record CriticsPrize in 2013. From 2017 to 2023, he completed a 21-CD project featuring the complete organ works of J. S. Bach. In 2021, he was awarded the Victorie Oeuvre Prize for his contribution to organ culture in Alkmaar. His concert career has taken him throughout Europe, Japan, and the United States. He is Artistic Director of the Organ Festival Holland and has published on Sweelinck, Bach, Weckmann, and Straube/Reger. He was also a jury member at several international organ competitions.
